A Moliere Celebration

May 12th - 15th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
Al Green Theatre in the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre
750 Spadina Ave (Bloor & Spadina)

The final production of TMT's current season, A Molière Celebration, presents scenes from two of the most famous French musical theatre works of the late 17th century in a unique double bill. French dramatist and comic master Jean-Baptiste Molière collaborated with two of the giants of French Baroque opera of his time, Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Jean-Baptiste Lully. TMT pays tribute to these rich collaborations with this production. Our Artistic Associates Derek Boyes (theatre) and Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière (dance) will respectively direct abridged versions of Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, a comédie-ballet (in translation) and Le Malade Imaginaire, a comedy (in French).

These works, full of song, wit, dance, Commedia dell'arte, and glorious music, will be presented by a small orchestra under the direction of Larry Beckwith, vocal soloists (sopranos Shannon Mercer and Dorothéa Ventura, countertenor Richard Whittall, tenor Cory Knight and baritone David Roth), dancers (Marie-Nathalie Lacoursière, Marie-Laurence Primeau, Mickaël Bouffard and Nina Richmond-Goring) and actors (Derek Boyes, Arlene Mazerolle, Isabeau Proux Lemire and Jean-François Gagnon), drawn from the Anglophone and francophone communities of Toronto and Montreal.
