Adieu Seigneur Polichinelle!
Another great day of rehearsal today. I realize I haven't written for a couple of days, but things have been busy. With the arrival of the dancers and Dorothea Ventura last night, everyone is now in town and the race to opening night begins....We had a good day yesterday with the small orchestra (recorder, 2 violins, 2 violas, cello and harpsichord) and singers. The whole idea of the evening is that M. Jourdain, the wealthy merchant, is trying to buy himself some class and sophistication by hiring specialists to teach him about music, dance, fencing and philosophy, so that he can go to the theatre and properly enjoy Le Malade Imaginaire. Hilarity ensues, of course. Our production is in English in the first half and French in the second. We will have full English versions of Le Malade available, so that you can follow along!
I'm so taken by the music of Lully and Charpentier for these plays. It's so clever and "fits" the dramatic situations brilliantly.
Anyway, we're in the theatre now. Our lighting designer Gabe Cropley is organizing the plot and design, our projection artist Caroline Guilbault is finished her drawings and "films" and Derek, Marie-Nathalie and I are marshalling our forces and diving headlong into the next two days of run-throughs, cue-to-cues and dress rehearsals.
I feel strongly that this is a unique show that Torontonians will be surprised and delighted by. There are still tickets left!!
